We're get a lot of questions about the obstacle gym. Questions like: do like I need to work up to train at the Academy, or is it only for Elites? Is OCR just for people doing OCR, or Obstacle Course Races? What we are first and foremost is a training facility, Obstacle Training to be exact.
Before you decide to go somewhere to be active you must first ask yourself “Why am I going to that establishment?” Are you going to a Crossfit gym to train for the games, or do you like going there because of the environment and it's a fun new way to get fit and be healthy? Why are you going to a corporate gym? Are you going there to train for something in particular, or do you have a fitness goal like weight loss that you are trying to achieve? How about Yoga? Parkour? Gymnastics? Why are you going to these facilities? Same question should be asked when you are considering OCR Academy.
OCR is a new way to get in the best shape of your life. We offer classes for both beginners and advanced fitness lovers. We'll get you in the best shape possible, so you can tackle the hardest obstacle course around - LIFE.
When you walk into our facility and see the 14 foot wall named Zeus, or our 80 foot rig, yes it can be intimidating, but when you walk into a martial arts facility, do they hand you a black belt and say so you will be rolling with George St. Pierre today? Seems pretty ludicrous right? To earn that black belt will require years of training and dedication before you can even attempt to get in the same ring with someone like GSP. Our rigs and walls are our version of a black belt or going toe to toe with GSP. That’s why we call our wall Zeus, because if you want to conquer a god, you must have some serious training behind you.
Insert our classes. Origins is our beginners class, that introduces you to Obstacle Training. It is designed to help you master the body and as you develop strength through bodyweight exercises, we slowly start to introduce weights. From time to time we do introduce obstacles into our classes but by no means will we have attempt the 12 or 14 foot wall, or even touch the rig.
Century is our advanced class where we combine weight training with obstacles, as what is the point of lifting heavy weights, if you can’t lift your body weight up a rope or over a 8 foot wall? After each class we will have our Work-Out of the Day (WOD) that will have you navigate our obstacle course, and you will be competing against not only yourself but also the clock as you race to get your name on the board, so others can compete to beat your time.
So do you have to be signed up for an OCR to train at the Academy? Not at all.
Obstacle Training is the new way to get in the best shape of your life, and have fun doing it.
